xAI’s “Colossus” supercomputer raises health questions in Memphis

The AI-Startup Xai from Elon Musk is planning to continue to use 15 guest turbines to continue to set its “colossus” single computer in Memphis, Tennessee, according to an operational permit at the Shelby County Health Department for Non-stop Turinogebre from June 2025 to June 2030.
Why does it matter? The commercial profession, a news output that the documents has obtained, notes that Environmental problems have emerged, since the 20-year-old turbines broadcast dangerous air pollutants (HAP), including formaldehyde, at levels that exceed the EPAs annual cap of 10 tons for a single source. (Per the story, the operational permit of the facility self -reports that the turbines each radiate 11.51 tons of bite per year.)
The turbines have been without public notification or supervision since the summer of 2024, says Eric Hilt, a spokesperson for Southern Environmental Law Center, the large non -profit organization for the environment and the permits do not explain an explanation for those emissions.
“It is another example of the company that is not transparent with the community or with local leaders,” says Hilt the commercial attraction.
The health department tells the exhaust valve that the permits have not yet been approved and there is “no fixed timeline for approval”.
