Warner Bros. sues Midjourney for AI images of Superman, Batman, and other characters

Warner Bros. AI Startup Midjourney suggests for copyright infringement, claiming that the company enables users to generate images and videos of characters such as Superman, Batman and Bugs Bunny without permission.
As reported for the first time by ReutersWarner Bros. Says that Midjourney has knowingly and knowingly an unlawful behavior, and noted that the company previously limited subscribers to generate content on the basis of infringing images, but recently that protection has lifted.
“Midjourney has made a calculated and profit -driven decision to offer zero protection for copyright owners, although Midjourney is aware of the breathtaking scope of his piracy and an infringement of copyright,” the complaint is.
The lawsuit strives for non -specific damage, the return of any profit from the alleged infringement and a stop to further violations.
Warner Bros. ‘The lawsuit follows a similar in June that was submitted in June by Walt Disney and Universal against Midjourney for an infringement of copyright in which characters such as Darth Vader, Bart Simpson, Shrek and others are involved. In this case, Midjourney has argued that the use of those works to train generative AI models is legal under the doctrine of the fair use of American copyright legislation.
Midjourney did not respond to WAN’s request for comment.
