‘WandaVision’ creator Jac Schaeffer sets the overall deal for Amazon TV

Jac Schaeffer has signed a three-year television deal with Amazon MGM Studios, Variety only learned.

Under the deal, Schaeffer will develop, write, executive produce and direct original series for Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios.

Schaeffer previously had an overall deal at Marvel Studios and 20th Television. She is best known for creating and showrunning the hit Marvel Studios Disney+ series ‘WandaVision’. The show was the first Marvel Cinematic Universe series to premiere on Disney+, with Marvel stars Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany reprising their roles as Wanda and Vision from the Marvel films.

The show proved to be a huge success, eventually earning 23 Primetime Emmy Awards nominations, as well as numerous other accolades. It was one of the highest-rated and most critically acclaimed TV shows of 2021. Schaeffer’s writing received particular praise, with viewers expressing their love for the show’s take on classic sitcoms, while also dealing with the serious emotions Wanda went through in the story.

Schaeffer then created the “WandaVision” spin-off “Agatha All Along” starring Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness, reprising her role from “WandaVision.” In addition to directing, Schaeffer was also the showrunner, writer and executive producer of that show. That show was also well received and earned three Emmy nominations, as well as nods for Golden Globes, Independent Spirit Awards and more.

Most recently, Schaeffer directed the pilot for a Disney+ series adaptation of the Louis Sachar novel “Holes” and contributed to the story of the Marvel film “Black Widow.” Prior to her time at Marvel, she wrote the screenplay for the Disney animated film “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure” and the 2019 Anne Hathaway-Rebel Wilson comedy “The Hustle,” a remake of the 1980s comedy film “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.”
