Veteran ‘General Hospital’ star was 85

Soap Opera veteran Denise Alexander, best known as Lesley Webber on “General Hospital” and Susan Hunter Martin on “Days of Our Lives”, died on March 5. Her death has only been revealed.
“I am so sorry to hear from the death of Denise Alexander. They broke barriers on the screen and out and portrayed Dr. Lesley Webber-a one of the first female doctors on television during the day during the day,” “GH” Executive Producer Frank Valentini said on social media. “It meant so much to have her repeated in recent years and I am honored that I had the opportunity to work with her. On behalf of the entire General Hospital family, I am expanding my sincere sympathies to her family, friends and old fans. If she rests in peace.”
Alexander’s acting career dates from the early 1950s when she made her Broadway debut in “The Children’s Hour” and guest played in the playful television classics such as “Father Knows Best”, “The Twilight Zone” and “The Danny Kaye Show”, 1960 was the year her that that her -SOAP, “The Clear Horizon”.
Two years later she was a daily player in an ABC soap -pilot called “Emergency Hospital”, who later became known as “General Hospital” – but not as Lesley Webber. Instead, she was cast as Susan Martin on “Days of Our Lives” in 1966, where she planted her roots for the next seven years. When she chose to leave the hugely popular soap in 1973, fans were not Cheerful.
That is when Alexander joined “GH”. At that time, reviews were not the best and ABC wanted exciting new characters and adding stories. Lesley by Alexander became a corner of one of the hottest triangle of Daytime – Lesley, Rick Webber (played by Chris Robinson) and Monica Bard (played by the late Leslie Charleson, who died earlier this year). Lesley was also in trouble in her ears because she confessed the murder of David Hamilton, a crime who committed her daughter Laura (Genie Francis). Alexander earned her acting an Emmy nomination for excellent actress in a drama series during the day.
When the Lesley storyline called to be killed in a car accident, fans were again furious. It was only 12 years later in 1996 that it was revealed that – on real soap fashion – Lesley actually lived. Between the two soaps, Alexander appeared on NBC’s ‘Another World’, working opposite her former ‘GH’ armor Robinson.
Alexander last appeared on “General Hospital” in 2021.
