The US government is reportedly in discussions to take an interest in Intel, according to Report from Bloomberg. This deal would be structured to help the company expand its production efforts of American production, including the much delayed Ohio Chip Factory.

This news comes less than a week after President Donald Trump stated that CEO of Intel Lip-Bu Tan resigned due to observed conflicts of interest. Although Trump gave no reason, this came after the Republican US Senator Tom Cotton wrote to the board of Intel to ask about Tan’s alleged ties with China.

Tan met the Trump administration on August 11 To suppress the fears of the administration and find ways for the company to work with the government. This meeting is what has led to discussions about the US government that, according to Bloomberg, takes a direct interest in the company.

Intel refused to comment.

“Intel is deeply committed to supporting President Trump’s efforts to strengthen American technology and the production of leadership,” said an Intel spokesperson in a statement. “We look forward to continuing our work with the Trump administration to promote these shared priorities, but we are not going to comment on rumors or speculation.”
