US embassy in Kiev closed due to fear of retaliation by Russian rocker
The US embassy in Kiev has been evacuated for fear of a retaliation with Russian missiles.
RadarOnline.com can reveal that the US Embassy claims it has received ‘specific’ information about a ‘potentially significant airstrike’.
It comes a day after Ukraine deployed US-supplied ATACMS missiles on Russian territory for the first time – and Moscow warned it would “respond accordingly”.
The embassy said: “As a precaution, the embassy will be closed and embassy employees are instructed to shelter in place.”
The embassy told U.S. citizens to “be prepared to provide immediate shelter if an air raid siren is declared.”
The British government is also monitoring the security situation for Britons in Kiev “incredibly closely” – but the embassy in the capital remains open.
Science Secretary Peter Kyle said Times radio: “We have very good relations with the government in Kiev and with the United States.
‘We will do everything we can to protect British citizens.
“But there is no doubt that this conflict has now lasted more than a thousand days. It was caused by Vladimir Putin’s illegal, unwarranted and unprovoked attack.”
Both Spain and Greece have closed their embassies, telling citizens to “take extreme security measures” due to the “increased risk of airstrikes” across Ukraine.
Putin has repeatedly warned that Moscow will respond to Ukraine’s attacks with US-made weapons deep inside Russia
In September he said this “would mean that NATO countries are at war with Russia.”
And just days after US President Joe Biden approved Ukraine’s use of its far-reaching missiles, Putin signed a new doctrine to lower the bar for launching a nuclear strike.
Almost simultaneously, Ukrainian media reported the first use of the ATACMS missiles on Russian territory.
The Ukrainian military did not comment on the use of the weapons but took responsibility for a fire at an arms depot in the town of Karachev, Bryansk, 110 kilometers across the border.
The Kremlin claimed that Ukraine had fired six ATACMS and claimed they had not caused serious damage.
It said it marked the crossing of a red line, officially putting nuclear retaliation on the table.
On Wednesday, Ukraine confirmed that Russia is preparing a “series of attacks.”
Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Ukrainian Security Council’s Center for Combating Disinformation, said: “Let me remind you that the Russians have been stockpiling missiles for a series of attacks on Ukraine for months.
“This includes Kh-101 missiles, which they continue to produce, as well as Kalibrs and ballistics.”
Meanwhile, Putin is reportedly willing to discuss a Ukrainian ceasefire deal with Donald Trump, sources claim.
But the Russian tyrant is believed to have a list of tough demands, including Kiev abandoning its plan to join NATO.
