United Airlines, Currensea and Mastercard launch the UK’s first loyalty debit card for frequent flyers | News

United Airlines, in partnership with Currensea, the market-leading payment technology platform for co-branded multi-bank debit cards, and Mastercard, today announced the launch of the United AirlinesSM Debit Card, the first-ever rewards debit card offered by a US airline to UK travelers.
The now available United Airlines Debit Card can be linked to any existing UK bank account and allows customers to earn United Miles and exclusive travel benefits on all their everyday spend, at home and abroad. This makes it easier than ever to earn United MileagePlusSM Miles, access exclusive travel rewards and take advantage of great exchange rates when spending abroad.
The launch of this new card reflects United’s continued focus on providing greater value, flexibility and seamless ways to engage customers with the MileagePlus program and builds on the airline’s recent announcement of enhanced benefits for United MileagePlusSM credit or debit cardholders. Beginning April 2, 2026, holders of an eligible United-branded credit or debit card will enjoy accelerated mileage savings when booking flights with United, as well as discounts of 10 percent or more on award tickets and access to exclusive Saver Award fares. With the United Airlines Debit Card, British travelers can take advantage of these enhanced rewards when traveling with United, while continuing to earn miles on all other spends, without having to open a new bank account or top up a separate card.
Bob Daly, Managing Director, Global Co-Brand Cards, United Airlines said: “The UK is one of United’s most important international markets and we are constantly looking for new ways to deliver more value to our customers here. With the launch of our first UK debit card, we are offering customers a simple, flexible way to earn MileagePlus miles on everyday spend – whether they are at home or traveling abroad. This partnership with Currensea and Mastercard allows us to leverage the benefits of the United MileagePlusSM program beyond the borders and into the daily lives of our customers.”
James Lynn, co-founder and CEO of Currensea, said: “We’re excited to be working with United Airlines and Mastercard to bring the first US airline rewards debit card to the UK. It means people in the UK can earn free flights, higher membership status and other benefits as a reward for their usual everyday spending, and take advantage of the recent enhancements to the MileagePlus program when booking United flights. With the new United Airlines Debit Card, customers can enjoy world-class benefits and some of the very best exchange rates for spending abroad, all without changing their existing bank accounts.”
Darren Deal, Senior Vice President – Fintech, Government & Digital Partnerships, UKI at Mastercard Europe, said: “Partnerships like this show how different brands working together can create a customer offering that is greater than the sum of its parts. It’s great to see a leading airline like United committing to growing its presence in the UK by working with Currensea, one of the country’s most innovative and fast-growing fintechs. This launch brings greater value, choice and rewards to UK consumers.”
