U.S. lawmakers have concerns about Apple-Alibaba deal
The Trump government and conference officials are investigating a deal between Apple and Alibaba that would deliver AI officials from Alibaba to iPhones sold in China, According to the New York Times.
With reference to anonymous sources, the NYT says that civil servants of the White House and the members of the House Select Committee for China Apple leaders have asked directly to the deal, with questions aimed at which data would be shared with Alibaba and whether the company made some commitments to Chinese regulators. Allegedly, the managers could not answer most of those questions.
In a statement, representative Raja Krishnamgoorthi (the ranking order Democrat in the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence) Alibaba described as “a Poster child for the military civil ferment strategy of the Chinese Communist Party” and said it had been “extremely disturbing” that Apple “did not”.
The deal itself is only publicly confirmed by Alibaba, not in Apple. This is not the only challenge that the rising tensions between the United States and China are present for the company of the iPhone maker, because the company is confronted with the incorrect, off-again rates.
