Two dead at Rob Reiner’s LA estate, LAPD homicide detectives respond
Actor/director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer were found dead in their Los Angeles home on Sunday evening, RadarOnline.com reports.
The two reportedly suffered cuts “consistent with a knife,” and a large police presence was called to the home.
The Los Angeles Fire Department was called to the West LA home around 3:30 PM local time on Sunday, and authorities initially would only confirm that they had discovered a man, approximately 78 years old, and a woman, approximately 68 years old.
Those are the ages of Rob and Michele.
Homicide detectives are now on scene and the police presence is growing.
As news of the tragedy was confirmed, fans shared memories and condolences on social media.
One person tweeted: “Rob Reiner directed my favorite movie of all time. A true work of art. I will forever cherish when Harry met Sally. Rest in peace to a true legend. The movie world will miss you forever.”
Another added: “Devastated by the news that Rob Reiner and his wife passed away tonight. What a classic, memorable actor and director! Thanks for the memories.”
While a third said: “Rob Reiner had one of the craziest runs in all of cinema history.”
Reiner rose to fame as the liberal voice in the groundbreaking television comedy Everything in the family.
He played Mike “Meathead” Stivic on the CBS sitcom from 1971-1979, often sparring with the cantankerous conservative Archie Bunker, played by Carroll O’Connor.
Reiner won two Primetime Emmy Awards for the role.
Years later, he became an acclaimed director of some of the most memorable films of the ’80s, including the rock band mockumentary This is a spinal tapthe comic fantasy The princess brideand his adaptation of Steven King’s coming of age story Stay with me.
Reiner went on to direct other critically and commercially successful films with his own company, Castle Rock Entertainment.
These include the romantic comedy When Harry met Sally…the Steven King thriller Wrongand two of writer Aaron Sorkin’s most notable films: the military courtroom drama Some good men and political romanticism The American president.
Reiner met his wife in 1998, just before he started filming When Harry met Sally…. Singer was apparently a photographer who took the photo of Donald Trump for the cover of his book The art of negotiation.
In a 2014 interview with AARPReiner gushed about his “best friend.”
“She helped raise me. What I talk about, how women show you what’s important, she did for me,” he stated.
The couple has three children: Jake, Nick and Romy.
