Trump says the investigation into Nancy Guthrie is going ‘very well’

President Donald Trump told reporters on board Air Force One on Friday evening (via TMZ) that the investigation into the kidnapping of Savannah Guthrie’s 84-year-old mother is going “very well” and that “definitive” answers about what happened could be released in the coming days.

When asked for an update on the matter, Trump said, “I think we’re doing very well in that regard. You’ll probably be surprised to hear that. I think we’re doing very well. Very well, which means we have some leads, I think, that are very strong, and I think we can get some answers pretty quickly.”

He added, “We have, I think, some things that may come out fairly quickly, from DOJ or FBI, or whoever that may be.”

Asked whether authorities have a suspect, Trump was vague: “It could be definitive. A lot has happened in the last few hours.”

Nancy Guthrie went missing on Sunday, February 1, after being last seen at her home in Tucson, Arizona on Saturday, January 31. Her daughter, Today host Savannah Guthrie, reported her missing after Nancy failed to attend her usual Sunday church service.

Since Nancy’s disappearance, police in Pima County, Arizona, have been searching for her with help from the FBI and federal authorities. Officials held two news conferences in the days after her disappearance and said they suspect foul play was involved. On Tuesday, February 3, news channel TMZ, which first broke the news of Nancy’s disappearance, received an apparent ransom note demanding millions of dollars in Bitcoin. The note contained two deadlines: Thursday, February 5 at 5 p.m. and Monday, February 9, which was described as a more serious deadline.

Savannah and her two siblings posted an emotional video on Wednesday, February 4, pleading with Nancy’s kidnappers to talk to them and show proof of life for Nancy.

“She is 84 years old. Her health and her heart are fragile. She lives in constant pain. She has no medication. She needs it to survive, and she needs it not to suffer,” Savannah said in the video. “We too have heard the reports of a ransom note in the media. As a family, we are doing everything we can. We are willing to talk. However, we live in a world where voices and images are easily manipulated. We need to know without a doubt that she is alive and that you have her. We want to hear from you, and we are willing to listen.”
