Trump lawyers confirm settlement interviews with Paramount more than 60 minutes

Lawyers representing President Trump in his lawsuit of $ 20 billion against CBS on the alleged misleading adaptation of a “60 minutes” segment to an extension of the deadlines of the court, with reference to the fact that the parties are “involved in active settlement discussions.”

Multiple news broadcasts, including Variety have reported that Trump and Paramount have been busy with continuous settlements. In a file on Friday at the Federal Court of Texas, said lawyers for Trump and co-requirement Rep. Ronny Jackson of Texas-Cam with lawyers for Paramount Global-Ze asked for an extension of judicial deadlines “because the parties are involved in active settlement discussions, including continuous mediation.”

“The parties do not try to expand deadlines with regard to the pending motions to dismiss, and the defendants plan to submit their answer to or before June 23, 2025,” said the submission.

Media reports have indicated that Paramount is willing to pay millions of dollars to arrange Trump’s suit. The Media Conglomaterate, which FCC reporting is looking for his deal to merge with Skydance Media, offered $ 15 million to arrange the suit, but that figure was rejected by Trump, according to a report Through the Wall Street Journal. Trump’s lawyers want at least $ 25 million – and they want “60 minutes” to give the president an apology, according to the Journal article. In addition, Trump’s lawyers ‘another lawsuit’ against CBS about its reporting in the midst of the settlements, according to the WSJ report.

Trump has submitted the lawsuit against CBS, only a few days before the 2024 presidential election, claiming that an interview of “60 minutes” with the then VP Kamala Harris violated a Texas Consumer Protection Law by misleading misleading voters and causing Trump personal financial damage. His lawsuit initially asked for $ 10 billion compensation. In February the president changed the complaint to look for at least $ 20 billion. It is not clear how those figures were calculated.

Last month sent US Sens. Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders and Ron Wyden a letter to Shari Redstone, the controlling shareholder of Paramount, who warned her that a financial arrangement would come to the president by the most part against an illegal bribery.

In Paramount’s motion of March 2025 to reject Trump’s lawsuit, the company called the legal action ‘an insult to the first amendment’ that is ‘without the basis in the law or the fact’. CBS News has sustained that the “60 minutes” broadcast and the promotion of the Harris interview “was not procacted or deceptive”.

In a 28 May that opposite Paramount’s motion to dismiss the lawsuit, Trump’s lawyers claimed that the “60 minutes” editing of the Harris interview “led to widespread confusion and mental fear of consumers,” including Trump. The behavior of CBS, including news removal, was commercial speech that cannot be found reasonable interpretation as an editorial judgment and that speech that claimed claimants, “said the submission.” The fact that such a commercial speech has been issued by a news organization does not insulate the defendants of liability under the first amendment. “
