Trump ends Kamala Harris’ secret service protection before the book tour

According to federal legislation, former VPs usually receive six months of protecting the secret service after leaving the office. In the case of Harris, that period ended on July 21.

However, her detail was extended an extra year after the then President Joe Biden had signed a secret directive just before he left the office. It is not clear why Biden signed the extension, or if he had a caring Intel, and as soon as Trump was informed, he canceled it.

In a letter that was sent to the Minister of the Interior Kristi on Thursday, the president wrote: “You are hereby authorized to terminate any security-related procedures that were previously authorized by executive memorandum, beyond those by law, for the next person, with effect from 1 September 2025: former Vice-president.”

When that date comes, Harris loses access to her security details, along with advanced levels of threat analysis on her e-mails, text messages and social media. Federal agents will also stop protecting her house in Los Angeles.
