‘True Detective’ idea for the return of Matthew McConaughey Woody Harrelson

Original ‘True Detective’ maker Nic Pizzolatto recently appeared on the podcast ‘Nothing Left Unsaid’ and revealed that he has an idea for a new story that the characters of Rust Cohle and Marty Harty brought, memorable played by Matthew McConaughy Harrelhy -Shanny. Many viewers (and McConaughey themselves) still consider season 1 of the “True Detective” as the best of the show. The 2014 season earned Emmy nominations for both actors.
“I actually have a different story for Cohle and Hart that who knows, maybe we will do it one day,” said Pizzolatto. “It is again based on character, that’s all [I can say]. But it’s not something I wrote or something. It’s just, I had that in my head. And we talked about getting together again and doing it, and I think the boys are open to it. It’s just a question whether that would ever happen or not. ”
McConaughey and Harrelson remained good friends in the years after “True Detective” and currently play together as fictional versions of themselves in an upcoming Apple TV+ Comedy series. McConaughey has always spoken lovingly about making ‘real detective’, telling Variety Earlier this year he loves his episodes.
“My favorite season – and I feel that I can say this lens – is season 1,” he said. “I happen to be in that, so I thought that was incredible, incredible television and a great series. I saw it weekly, just like everyone else, on Sunday evening, and that was an event for me. And I had to lean back and enjoy it.
Pizzolatto returned for “True Detective” season 2, at the head by Rachel McAdams, Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn, but the episodes were saved by film critics. A third season, apart from Mahershala Ali, turned out to be more favorable in 2017. Pizzolatto was not involved in the fourth season of the show, “True Detective: Night Country” with Jodie Foster and made by Issa Lopez.
“I was the one who ran away from my contract at the end of 2019,” Pizzolatto said on the podcast about his franchise exit. “And I believe that if I had given them a good script for another season of ‘real detective’, I believe they would have gone for it. But I was spiritually tired of walking in so much darkness. And dealing with such dark materials. And then I got full custody of my daughter back and that was a situation in which I really had to be a father’s step in 2020 steps.”
Pizzolatto said he was the one who took himself from the “real detective” comparison, so it was “good and appropriate” for HBO to continue without him for season 4. The network is now developing a fifth season of “True Detective” with “Night Country’s” Lopez who returns as a show runner.
