Travis Kelce shares new update on NFL retirement plans

Travis Kelce has shared a new update on whether he plans to retire after the current NFL season.
The 36-year-old Kansas City Chiefs admitted to reporters that he had not yet made the final decision on whether this will be his final season, according to to multiple points of sale on Friday, November 21.
Travis explained that he was taking cues from his older brother Jason’s NFL retirement and said he wanted to show respect to the Chiefs by giving the team as much notice as possible if he decides to walk away.
“You know, seeing my brother go through it and seeing how the league works, the season starts again in April and I want to give the Chiefs a good chance to know if I’m coming back or not,” he said. “And vice versa. Whether they want me back or not, it’s one of those things where I’d like to make that decision before they have to get a draft pick and free agency opens up.”
He added: “I’d like to make that decision before they have to get a draft pick and free agency opens to properly fill out the roster… That will all be at the end of the season. Until then, I won’t think about it.”
There is a lot of speculation that Travis is getting ready to retire, especially after getting engaged Taylor Swift earlier this year.
Jason, who played for the Philadelphia Eagles, retired at the end of the 2023 season.

“This is when you’re going to know, when this time comes, and you have to walk away,” Jason said. “[It’s] fighting against your body, as if you used to be able to do something that you can no longer do. Then it’s like you’re fighting against that, to keep getting that back. Then it starts to get difficult. The bottom line is that everyone knows when it’s time.”
The same month, Travis insisted at a press conference that he had no immediate plans to retire.
“I’m going to do it until the wheels fall off,” he said at the time. “I can absolutely understand that the end of the road is approaching [more] then the beginning of it. I just have to make sure I’m ready for after football.”
He added: “I enjoy going to work every day. Obviously, I know there are opportunities for me outside of football. I think you have to keep in perspective that I’m a little kid when I come into this building.”
More recently, Travis spoke about his possible retirement plans during an appearance on ESPN’S Countdown on Monday evening.
“Man, I’m lucky I can keep having fun with these guys year after year, man,” Travis said in October. “I take it day by day, year by year. I love working with these guys.”
