But his biggest contribution to the music world was the catchy score for TVs Mission: impossible Series, who later became a film franchise with the lead role Hollywood Action Star Tom Cruise.

Written in the unusual 5/4 time signature, the theme “Dum dum dum dum dum dum dum dum” was linked to a self-destruction clock on the screen that started the popular TV program from 1966 to 1973.

It was described as “only the most contagious melody ever heard by Mortal Ears” by New Yorker film critic Anthony Lane.

The melody also reached no. 41 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1968.

Schifrin originally wrote another piece for the themeLodium – but series -maker Bruce Geller liked another package that Schifrin had composed for an action scene.

The legend said about the theme -melody: “The producer called me and told me:” You will have to write something exciting, almost like a logo, something that will be a signature, and it will start with a fuse. “

“So I did it and there was nothing on the screen.

“And perhaps the fact that I was so free and I had no images to catch, maybe that is why this thing has become so successful because I wrote something that came inside.”

Mission: impossible Won Grammy’s for the best instrumental theme and the best original score of a film or a TV program.
