Tish Cyrus admits she never wanted to divorce Billy Ray Cyrus

Tish Cyrus thinks about her marriage to Billy Ray Cyrus and how she wasn’t willing to throw in the towel until she had to.

“I never wanted a divorce,” Tish, 57, said during the Monday, November 25, episode Kate Hudson And Oliver Hudson“S”Brother and sister revelrypodcast, in which she noted that her own parents’ decades-long marriage was the inspiration behind the desire for a long-term commitment.

She continued: “[But] for us you are in the public eye and the world we exist in is already so strange and sometimes unstable. I wanted to make it work, probably for a little too long, like for my own mental health. There came a point where I had no choice anymore.”

Tish went on to tell Hudson’s siblings that her 2022 divorce from the single “Achy Breaky Heart” was “hard on everyone,” even though their children were grown when they went their separate ways for good. (The exes, who tied the knot in 1993, previously filed for divorce in 2010 and 2013 but reconciled. Together they share daughters Miley Cyrus And Noah Cyrusand son Braison Cyrus. Tish also has two children from a previous relationship, daughter Brandi Cyrus and son Trace Cyrusboth of whom adopted Billy Ray, 63.)

“I was an only child, had the best upbringing and the best parents and I have never experienced anything like this. So I don’t really know how it affects you, but… it was definitely something that was probably hard for them no matter how you do it,” Tish explained. “And I think we did that very well. I think I did a really good job, and I think I just wanted to make it as easy as possible for everyone involved.”

Brandi, 37, who co-hosts the “Sorry We’re Cyrus” podcast with her mother and also appeared on Monday’s “Sibling Revelry” episode, echoed Tish’s sentiment.

“It wasn’t great, but we’re all old enough to understand it,” she said. “We can zoom out and see it as it was.”

After Tish and Billy Ray split in April 2022, Tish started dating Prison break actor Dominic Purcell in July of that year.

After less than a year of marriage, Billy Ray filed for an annulment from Firerose, citing irreconcilable differences and “inappropriate marital conduct.” The exes’ date of separation was listed as May 22, 2024, seven months after their wedding.

The former spouses finalized their divorce in August, Us confirmed.
