The paradise of a pirate! $ 1 million house in ‘Canada’s Caribbean’ overlooks the real shipwreck

There is a rare opportunity to have a water ownership on “Canada’s Caribbean”, with 132 Big Tub Road, Tobermory Ontariotouching the market for C $ 1,350,000 (US $ 985,000).

Located on the tip of the Bruce peninsula, the house has a function that cannot claim any simply Meerhuis: in the first row seats to a shipwreck.

Big Tub Harbor itself is one of the deepest natural ports in the big lakes, known for a long time as a safe port for ships traveling Georgian Bay. Nowadays it is better known for its postcard -worthy landscapes and as one of the most visited diving sites in Canada.

“This property is right in front of one of the historic sunken ships in Big Tub Harbor,” says Listing Agent Darlene Kentel. “It’s waterfront, it’s spacious and it’s in a very special, historic location.”

The house with three bedrooms, two bathrooms and 2500 square foot overlooks the Crystal Waters of Fathom Five National Marine Park.

Below the surface is the Sweepstakes and the city of Grand Rapids, 19th-century wooden schooners who sang in the harbor and now belong to the most photographed shipwrecks in Canada.

“Tobermory is internationally famous,” says Kentel, who lives in the area. “We have many divers who come here because the fresh, cold water from Georgian Bay has saved these ships so well. It looks like Caribbean water, but it is a cold, cold lake.”

Whether it’s snorkeling, kayaking or just staring from the deck, future owners can enjoy daily scenes that fall directly from a seafaring adventure.

Private retreat on Big Tub Harbor

While the shipwreck adds a touch of pirate drama, the house itself offers peace and privacy. Back from the road, it is surrounded by adult trees that screen passing water sports enthusiasts.

“The trees give a huge amount of privacy,” Kentel notes. “It is designed that way that way, you still get a great view of the water, but you don’t feel that everyone is looking inside.”

The house also respects the protected coastline. Because docks cannot be permanently within the Marine Park, the building includes removable docks, the preservation of the natural waterfront.

Inside the house combines comfort with craftsmanship. A large large room with curved white-pine ceilings frames view of Big Tub Harbor, while open-concept dining and making a bar-cream bar the ideal for entertaining.

Attention to detail is everywhere: locally manufactured walnut stairs, custom -made bathrooms and hand -finished woodwork designed by a local contractor. Large windows bring the outdoors in, so that residents can enjoy the changing moods of the Bay of Golden Summer Sunsets to snow-covered evergreens in the winter every season. The open layout and multiple decks of the house make it suitable for quiet retreats or organizing friends after a day on the water.

“There is only one owner since it has been built,” says Kentel. “It was lovingly designed and cared for.”

A treasure that is hard to find

Houses on Big Tub Road are rarely for sale, with many who have been passed on by families for generations. Kentel, who lives in the neighborhood, calls it a ‘legacy area’.

“It is a close -knit community. Neighbors are looking forward to each other’s houses, feeding each other’s cats when they are gone,” she says laughing. “It is a small port at the end of the peninsula.”

The area is a paradise in the summer and it takes visitors in warmer months who are attracted to the area for sailing or walking in the Bruce Peninsula National Park.

The small village also comes to life with boat trips and ice shops, and has built up a reputation as Duikkapitaal from Ontario, who attracts visitors from all over Canada and then.

Winter brings snowshoeing, cross -country skiing and snowmobile for the locals that can embrace the loneliness and natural beauty of the peninsula.

This rare list offers more than a house. It is an opportunity to claim a piece of Canadian maritime history, to live in a protected UNESCO bios atmosphere reserve and to wake up every day with views that would make a pirate jealous.

As Kentel says: “It’s just a beautiful, loved house at a very unique, special location.”
