‘The Late Show’, ‘The Daily Show’ Get ready for the Democratic Convention

CBS’ “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” and Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” travel to Chicago next week for a week of shows during the Democratic National Convention. On the docket: a biofilm of Kamala Harris made by the team at “The Daily Show” and a guest list on “The Late Show” that includes Hillary Rodham Clinton and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

The two shows’ DNC plans don’t take away from what they were ultimately able to do last month at the Republican National Convention. In particular, “The Daily Show” was planning to air from Milwaukee that week, but then the assassination attempt on Donald Trump changed those plans. Instead, “The Daily Show” canceled its Monday broadcast that week and remained at its usual home base in New York City for the rest of the week.

This time, “The Daily Show” “Indecision 2024” coverage includes four nights at the Athenaeum Center for Thought & Culture in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood.

Harris’ biofilm is the latest in a popular series of short films about important leaders; the biofilms even earned “The Daily Show” an Emmy nomination this year for “Vivek Ramaswamy’s Daily Showography: Enter the RamaVerse”, competing in the category Outstanding Picture Editing for Variety Programming (segment).

Also next week, The Daily Show correspondent Jordan Klepper will tour Chicago with Illinois Governor JB Pritzker. And the show promises several more pieces that they will record on the floor of the DNC with “The Daily Show” news team throughout the week.

As for “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” plans are to air live every night at 11:35 PM ET (delayed on the West Coast) from Monday, August 19 through Thursday, August 22 from the Auditorium Theater in downtown Chicago, near Grant Park.

Guests are subject to change, but for now the Monday, August 19 episode will feature former Sec. of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and “Veep” star Julia Louis-Dreyfus; Tuesday, August 20, will feature guests Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries; and Wednesday, August 21 includes Sec. by Transportation Pete Buttigieg, with a performance by Chicago’s own Chance the Rapper. No guests have been announced yet for the Thursday, August 22 episode.
