Tragedy has struck the NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin …his father died after a devastating house fire in North Carolina, which also seriously injured his mother.
On Monday evening, Gaston County EMS confirmed the age of 75 Dennis Hamlin died from injuries sustained in the fire. Hamlin’s 69-year-old mother, Maria Lou Hamlin was injured in the fire and remains in critical condition.
Officials say both victims managed to flee the burning home but suffered catastrophic injuries. Dennis was transported to hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The fire destroyed the house. Firefighters had to enter the water due to a lack of hydrants, delaying efforts to control the fire. It took about two hours for the fire to be brought under control.
Despite the extensive damage, firefighters were able to rescue some racing memorabilia and collectibles from the home.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Denny has not yet publicly commented on the tragedy.
