The best items to bid on at Gene Hackman’s online estate sale

For those with finer tastes, Hicks said there will be a live auction on Nov. 19 in New York featuring “works collected by (Hackman) quite famous artists, including Milton Avery and two prints by Richard Diebenkorn, all of which are in the six-figure range, as well as a few other well-known American artists.
The highlight of the live auction is American modernist Avery’s “Figure on the Jetty,” which is expected to sell for somewhere between $500,000 and $700,000.
According to an auction house description: “This painting, which depicts a lone figure on a dock overlooking the sea, was likely inspired by (Avery’s) summers spent in Provincetown, Massachusetts, from 1957 to 1960, and reflects Avery’s mature style, which is prominent in his oeuvre.”
After exhibiting in major galleries and institutions for decades, Hackman acquired it in 1997 and kept it until his death.
