‘Ted Lasso’ alum Phil Dunster joins Bill Lawrence’s HBO series
Phil Dunster reunites with “Ted Lasso” co-creator Bill Lawrence at HBO.
Dunster has signed on to star alongside Steve Carell in the untitled HBO comedy series written by Lawrence and Matt Tarses, which was originally picked up in May.
The half-hour series has been given a 10-episode order. The official logline states that the single-camera show is “set on a college campus, centering on an author’s complicated relationship with his daughter.” Dunster’s exact character details are being kept secret.
Dunster is best known in the United States for his role as Jamie Tartt in “Ted Lasso,” which aired for three seasons on Apple TV+. Dunster received a 2023 Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy for the series. His other notable roles include shows like “The Devil’s Hour,” “Strike Back” and “Humans,” as well as films like “Murder on the Orient Express” and “The Good Liar.”
He is represented by CAA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, Shelter PR and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
Lawrence and Tarses wrote the first episode of the series. Both serve as executive producers, with Carell also executive producing in addition to starring. Lawrence produces through Doozer Productions along with Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer. Warner Bros. Television, where both Lawrence and Tarses have general similarities, is the studio.
This is the second show since the conclusion of “Ted Lasso” to reunite Lawrence with one of the series’ stars. Lawrence is also working with Brett Goldstein, aka Roy Kent, on the Apple TV+ series “Shrinking,” which the pair co-created with Jason Segel, who stars in the show.
