Ted Danson receives Carol Burnett Award at Golden Globes 2025

Ted Danson will receive the Carol Burnett Award at the 82nd annual Golden Globes.

“Ted Danson has entertained audiences for decades with his iconic performances that will forever be etched in television history,” said Helen Hoehne, president of the Golden Globes. “His celebrated career is a testament to his remarkable talent and versatility as an actor and bears a resemblance to the award’s legendary namesake. It is an honor to present him with the 2025 Carol Burnett Award to celebrate the tremendous impact he has made and continues to make on television.

Danson will be honored along with Viola Davis, this year’s Cecil B. DeMille Award winner, at a special gala dinner on January 3 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. This is the first time that a special event dedicated to the two awards will be held during the awards ceremony.

Danson will also be recognized during the awards broadcast on January 5. The nominations for the 2025 Golden Globes will be announced on December 9.

The Carol Burnett Award was created in 2019, with Burnett himself being the first recipient. It is awarded to someone who has “made outstanding contributions to television, both on and off screen,” according to the Golden Globes. “The recipient is selected based on their body of work and the lasting impact of their television career on both the industry and audiences.” In addition to Burnett, other recipients included Norman Lear, Ryan Murphy and Ellen DeGeneres.

Danson is a thirteen-time Golden Globe nominee and a three-time winner. One of his wins was in 1985 for Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for the film “Something About Amelia.” His other two wins were for Best Performance by an Actor in a TV Series – Musical or Comedy for ‘Cheers’ in both 1990 and 1991. He has also been nominated for his work in shows such as ‘Damages’, ‘Becker’ and ‘ The right place.”
