Tazbah Chavez to direct NBC’s Indian community comedy pilot

Tazbah Chavez is set to direct NBC’s Single-Cam comedy pilot who takes place in an Indian community center, Variety has learned exclusively.

The cast for the pilot includes Jana Schmieding, Bobby Wilson, Wes Studi, Rachel Dratch, Frankie Quiñones, Eddie Spears, Brian Bahhe and Sienna Tso. It was picked up in March at Pilot at NBC, together with the Cheerleader comedy pilot ‘Stumbe’.

The official logline for the project states that it is “an ensemble comedy that takes place in a native community center in Oakland, California. Press the employees to maintain the lights and at the same time raise the in need.”

The pilot comes from writers Sierra Teller Ornelas, Jackie Keliiaa and Wilson. All three are also executive producers, with Teller Ornelas who serve as a showrunner. Morgan Sackett will also perform executive products. Universal Television, where both Teller Ornelas and Sackett are under general deals, is the studio.

Chavez’s director The pilot brings her together with various members of the cast and the creative team of the show because of her earlier work at the shows “Rutherford Falls” and “Reservation Dogs”. She wrote and directed several episodes of both shows, and was a producer of the former and co-executive producer on the latter, to share the best comedy series ‘Reservation Dogs’ “Reservation Dogs series Emmy series in 2024.

She is taken back by 3 doctor, WME and Hansen Jacobson.

The current comic line-up of NBC is rather slim, only consisting of the multi-cam “Happy’s place” and the mockumerary “St. Denis Medical”. Both “Night Court” and “Lopez vs. Lopez” have recently been canceled in the employment network.
