Taylor Swift’s Tortured Poets unit is back at No. 1 as the Eras Tour ends
Taylor Swift‘S The department of tortured poets has reached the top Billboard 200 album chart again.
The pop star’s 11th studio album, first released on April 19, saw its best sales since its second week of release after Target exclusively released a physical edition of the album. TTPD: The Anthology deluxe album over Thanksgiving weekend. The expanded edition scored 405,000 equivalent album units in the week ending December 5, per a Billboard report from Sunday December 8.
Give those numbers TTPD its best sales week since its second week, when it scored 439,000 equivalent album units. Of course, the album debuted atop the Billboard 200 in April, selling a total of 2.61 million copies (1.914 million traditional copies and 891.34 million on-demand streams) across all platforms in its first week of release.
TTPD‘s return to the top of the chart marks the 16th non-consecutive week at No. 1 and makes it the third-longest No. 1 by a woman. Only Adele‘S 21 (24 weeks) and The bodyguard (20 weeks) soundtrack performed by Whitney Houston spent more weeks at the top.
The chart-topping album is buoyed by the success of Swift’s record-breaking album Eras tourwhich came to an end on Sunday after almost two years at BC Place in Vancouver. The tour started in March 2023 and spanned five continents and 149 shows.
During Sunday’s final performance, Swift, 34, thanked fans for being “part of the most exciting chapter of my life so far – my beloved Eras tour.”
Her management team said via We watched you spend hours designing your costumes, trading friendship bracelets, singing and dancing non-stop to the entire set list, spreading love to everyone and welcoming every city to our shared traditions.”
“As the tour comes to an end, your smiles, tears and friendships will last a lifetime. Remember to hold on to the memories – they will hold on to you. 🫶,” the post concluded.
Swift’s collaboration with Target over Thanksgiving also saw huge book sales. That of the star The Eras tour bookalso released on November 29, it sold almost 1 million copies in its first week of sales. This makes it the largest book launch of 2024 so far.
