Taylor Swift reacts to Chiefs Harrison Butker’s game-winning kick
Taylor Swift can’t help it when it comes to a Kansas City Chiefs win.
Swift, 34, was spotted jumping up and down after Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker scored a game-winning field goal on Sunday, September 15, giving Kansas City a 26-25 win over Joe Burrow the Cincinnati Bengals.
From her suite at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Swift was seen on CBS hugging her fellow Chiefs fans as a boyfriend Travis Kelce and his team improved to 2-0.
Butker, of course, raised eyebrows this season with a controversial speech at Benedictine College, in which he called on women to embrace the role of “housewife” and equated Pride Month with “deadly sin.”
During his speech in May, Butker, 29, even directly referenced Swift and her relationship with Kelce, also 34.
“As my teammate’s girlfriend says, ‘fame breeds contempt,’” Butker said, referencing a lyric from Swift’s song “Bejeweled” from her 2022 album. Midnights.
“To the ladies here today, congratulations on a great performance,” Butker continued. “I want to speak directly to you briefly because I think you, the women, have been fed the most devilish lies against you.”
The Chiefs frog continued, “Some of you may have successful careers in the world, but I would hazard a guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world.”
Swift never directly responded to comments from Butker, who signed a four-year, $26.5 million contract extension with Kansas City in August, becoming the highest-paid kicker in the National Football League.
Kelce addressed Butker’s comments during an episode of his “New Heights” podcast shortly after his speech caused a stir, saying, “I cherish him as a teammate.”
“When it comes to his views and what he said during the speech, those are his,” Kelce told his brother. Jason Kelce. “I can’t say I agree with most of it – or just about anything – except that he just loves his family or his children. I don’t think I should judge him on his views, especially his religious views on how he lives life.’
Earlier in Sunday’s game, Swift was seen on camera reacting to Kelce running up a yard for a touchdown in the third quarter.
“Oh my God, Travis!” Swift shouted. “Oh my God! Oh my God!”
CBS play-by-play analyst Jim Nantz had fun with the situation after Swift was spotted on air. ‘Someone wanted a touchdown! Someone wanted to see six after she got seven at the VMAs on Wednesday night!'” Nantz said, referencing Swift’s win of seven MTV Video Music Awards on Wednesday, September 11.
The Kansas City Chiefs return to action on Sunday, September 22nd when they travel to Atlanta to take on the Falcons.
