Sydney Sweeney gets nervous discussing the TikTok trend after controversy

Sydney Sweeney felt uncomfortable guessing a popular internet trend.

Sweeney, 28, appeared on the Monday, December 1, episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The maid actress took part in the ‘What’s Behind Me’ game, in which Fallon, 51, gave her clues about the scene in the background.

As Sweeney turned away from the screen, the audience watched three giant Labubu dolls perform the “six seven” trend while standing in a McDonald’s drive-thru.

“This is freaking awesome,” Fallon teased as he prepared for the match. “Okay, it’s three of today’s most popular dolls attached to purses.”

Sydney Sweeney knows how to make an entrance. The 28-year-old actress stunned in a sheer silver dress at Variety’s Power of Women event on Wednesday, October 29. She was all smiles as she walked the red carpet, keeping her jewelry minimal and her makeup neutral. Her blonde hair was styled in a simple bob with a side part […]

Sweeney immediately knew Fallon was talking about Labubus, so the late night host moved on to the toy location in the scene.

‘They’re in a fast food restaurant [place] where you take your car to get fast food even faster,” Fallon said, and Sweeney correctly answered, “a drive-thru.”

Fallon then described the fast food brand as a “Scottish burger joint,” which confused Sweeney. Fallon turned and described the restaurant’s mascot, Ronald McDonald.

“Sorry, sorry! There’s a clown in there. A clown as a mascot,” Fallon said, causing Sweeney to realize it was McDonald’s.

However, when Fallon described how the Labubus performed the viral hand gesture of the numerical internet trend, Sweeney became nervous as he said “six seven” out loud.

“I can’t say that!” she declared.

Fallon apparently thought she was referring to the number 69, which is slang for a sexual act.

“No, no! You can say it,” he said, stifling his laughter. “Subtract two! Subtract two, I think, from what you say.”

Although Sweeney understood what Fallon was talking about, she clarified that she felt like she couldn’t say “six seven.”

“No, I can’t say that, that’s the trend!” she said, telling Fallon it was a “number” that was “not 66” or “68.” Sweeney finally admitted, “I know it’s 67.”

Fallon applauded Sweeney for doing a good job and reiterated that it was okay that she said it and that it wasn’t a “dirty” line. Sweeney said she saw a video about people getting into “trouble” for saying “six seven,” so that’s why she was cautious.

“I don’t know! I saw people getting in trouble for doing this,” she said.

The clip from the episode was shared online and many users were confused as to why Sweeney thought “six seven” was a bad thing.

“She has great ‘jeans’ but won’t say 6-7???” one person commented on The Tonight Show’s Instagram, referencing Sweeney’s controversial collaboration with American Eagle earlier this year.

Another replied: “So she draws the line at 67? Right, right 💀.”

Sweeney had had his fair share of controversies over the past year. Over the summer, she was criticized for her American Eagle ad, which used a play on words involving “jeans” and “genes.” The tagline was: “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans.” After the ad mentioned genetic traits, the Internet thought it was promoting the discredited theory of eugenics.

In August, American Eagle released a statement in response to the backlash: “‘Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans’ is and has always been about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story. We will continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, in their own way. Great jeans look good on everyone.”

Sydney Sweeney couldn’t resist expressing her love for costar Amanda Seyfried while filming their new movie, The Housemaid. The Euphoria star, 28, revealed on the Monday, December 1 episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that she is a big fan of Seyfried’s role as Sophie in Mamma Mia!, which is based on the film […]

Three months later, Sweeney addressed the scandal after publicly saying she didn’t want to talk about it while promoting her film Christy.

“I did an ad for jeans. I mean, the response was definitely a surprise, but I love jeans. All I wear are jeans,” Sweeney later told GQ. “Eventually I knew what that ad was for, and it was a great pair of jeans. It didn’t influence me one way or the other.”

Sweeney added that she was busy filming Euphoria season 3, so she didn’t watch the online commentary.

“I think if I have an issue that I want to talk about, people will hear it,” she said.
