Storm-proof Dome home with private vineyard and 10 acres of land hits the market in Oklahoma for under $800,000

The term “dome house” is usually more than enough to make a listing stand out, but in the case of an Oklahoma home, the dome at its center is just one of a triumvirate of treasures, which also includes a private vineyard. And a lush 10 hectare farmland.

Located in Yukon, OK, the unique property, which is for sale for $799,900, was not built out of a desire to create a unique structure, but rather because of the resilience such a design provides in severe weather conditions.

The dome and attached cube are built of concrete and rebar, essentially creating an above-ground storm shelter for you to live in.

“The gentleman who built it originally traveled a lot, so he was out of town a lot and in Oklahoma there are tornadoes, so he looked for a company that built these dome houses,” says Realtor. Brian Rushwho mediates the sale at Bailee & Co. Real Estate.

“It’s built to withstand almost anything, even an F4 tornado.”

The domed portion was built first and the square addition came later to add more space, making it a total of 2,221 square feet with two bedrooms and three bathrooms.

“Once you get inside, you have a really nice kitchen and the spaces are large. The walls in the dome area are rounded, but you still have a lot of space,” Rush explains.

“I’m 6 feet tall, so I’m a pretty big guy, but I still had no trouble walking around, even towards the edges of the walls.”

That’s not to say the dome shape doesn’t also add a nice aesthetic flair to the property, with Rush noting that the property reminded him of a “Star Wars” set when he first saw it.

“The first thing that came to my mind was ‘Star Wars’ because it kind of has the look and feel of the original ‘Star Wars’ from the ’70s, where Luke Skywalker lived,” he recalls, adding that the home also has a similar sandscape to the fictional home from the sci-fi hit.

“It really has that look and feel, especially when you see it from an aerial view down where you can see the entire double dome.”

The unique character certainly stood out.

“My first thought was, I’ve never seen or mentioned a house like this before, especially in Oklahoma, but this is going to be really cool.”

The house is located on 10.63 hectares of land with good soil, atypical for the area.

“In Oklahoma we have a lot of red clay soil, which is terrible for anything that has to do with agriculture. But the soil there is just beautiful. It’s a sandy loam.”

Because of the growth potential, the seller’s family decided to plant a vineyard that now contains several hectares of Norton Red grapes and Vignoles White grapes.

“The family has done it more as a hobby over the years, but they have all the equipment there to produce wine,” Rush says. “If someone wanted to come in and make it a full-fledged company, they could certainly do that.”

All winemaking materials are in a commercial shop, which is more than just a metal frame.

“It’s got Phase 3 power. It’s got two bathrooms in the shop, one full, one half. It’s ventilated. From all those kinds of standpoints, it’s just ready to go.”

Rush says the buyer will most likely be someone who wants to tap into the land’s agricultural potential and likes something unique.

“The house is obviously not going to be to everyone’s taste. I think as soon as people see it and walk through it, they think, ‘Oh, this is actually a very nice house.'”

And although the house is different, it is very livable.

“Sometimes you walk through a property, especially if it’s a unique property, and you just don’t understand how you live there, and that’s not true at all,” Rush said. “It’s very functional in terms of layout and it’s pretty cool that your entire house is a shelter, so you really don’t have to worry about anything when the storm rolls through.”
