Starfleet Academy Sets Release Date, Stephen Colbert Cast

“Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” has set its premiere date on Paramount+.

The new series will debut with the first two episodes on January 15, 2026, with new episodes releasing weekly through March 12. The announcement was made during the “Star Trek” Universe panel at New York Comic-Con on Saturday.

Additionally, it was revealed during the panel that Stephen Colbert is officially part of the show — at least, his voice is. Colbert will provide the voice for Starfleet Academy’s Digital Dean of Students, making daily announcements to the students and alerting them to anything that needs their immediate attention.

Paramount also released a new trailer for the series, which you can see below.

As previously announced, “Starfleet Academy” has already been renewed for a second season. This week also marks the launch of StarfleetAcademy.com, where fans can explore campus life, academics and faculty at the Academy.

“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” was also featured at the panel, including a new first-look clip from the show’s upcoming fourth season. The show has already been renewed for a fifth and final season at Paramount+.

The Season 4 clip and a behind-the-scenes featurette on Season 3’s costumes can also be seen below.

“Starfleet Academy” stars Holly Hunter as Chancellor of Starfleet Academy, with the Starfleet cadets played by Sandro Rosta, Karim Diané Kerrice Brooks, George Hawkins and Bella Shepard. Zoë Steiner, Tig Notaro and Robert Picardo also star alongside guest stars Oded Fehr, Mary Wiseman, with returning guest stars Gina Yashere and Paul Giamatti.

The logline for the series states that it “introduces viewers to a young group of cadets who come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism. Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves, and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.”
