Star Trek Creates Social Campaign Timed to ‘Star Trek Day’

The Star Trek franchise has announced “Take the Chair, Make an Impact,” a global campaign encouraging fans to embrace the vision of a better future.

The ‘Take the Chair’ campaign “invites fans to see themselves in the iconic captain’s chair of the USS Enterprise and ask themselves, ‘What would I do if I were setting the course for the future?'” said one declaration.

Fans can celebrate ‘Star Trek Day’ at various pop-up events in cities such as Chicago, Berlin and Vancouver.

The premiere episodes of the “Star Trek” series can be viewed for free in a special preview between September 7 and 13 on Paramount+ partner platforms (Amazon, Apple, Roku), as well as on Paramount+’s YouTube page, Pluto TV and on the free content hub Paramount+ (US only). Premiere episodes include the original “Star Trek” series; ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’, ‘Star Trek: Voyager’, ‘Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’, ‘Star Trek: Enterprise’, ‘Star Trek: The Animated Series’, ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ “ Star Trek: Lower Decks,” “Star Trek: Discovery,” “Star Trek: Picard” and “Star Trek: Short Treks.”

“Star Trek Day” takes place during the show’s television debut on September 8, 1966.

PROGRAMMING

Atsuko Okatsuka’s second stand-up comedy special will premiere on Hulu in November as part of the platform’s new stand-up comedy brand, which it has cheekily dubbed “Hularious.”

The special will be taped on November 9 at the Disney-owned El Capitan Theater in Hollywood. The show is part of Okatsuka’s newly added Los Angeles date on her 2024 Full Grown Tour, which is produced by Live Nation.

Following her HBO special ‘The Intruder’, Okatsuka began her tour with over 200 shows in over 100 cities, over 20 countries, four continents and over 100,000 tickets sold.

In addition to her stand-up career, she debuted with two films at the Tribeca Film Festival: “All That We Love” by Yen Tan; and “Group Therapy,” directed by Neil Berkely and produced by Kevin Hart’s Hartbeat Productions. She also helmed the feature film studio comedy “Outcome” for Apple, starring Jonah Hill and Keanu Reeves.

Hulu has not yet announced the special’s title or release date.

Jacoba Atlas’ documentary “The M Factor: Shredding the Silence on Menopause” premieres on PBS on October 17, followed by a 20-city U.S. screening tour.

According to the official logline, “The M Factor” features renowned physicians, workplace advocates and leading women’s health advocates, addressing questions that have long plagued women. Women from all walks of life reveal the physical and mental anguish they live with every day. The film also sheds light on the disparities black and brown women face when assessing their treatment options.”

“Every woman will go through menopause,” said executive producers Denise Pines and Tamsen Fadal. “Neglecting, ridiculing or shaming debilitating symptoms is unacceptable and impacts more than just an individual woman’s well-being.”

“The M Factor” is produced by Women in the Room Productions and Take Flight Productions.

David E. Kelley, the writer and producer behind “Ally McBeal,” “LA Law” and “Big Little Lies,” will receive the 2024 International Emmy Founders Award at the 52nd International Emmy Awards Gala.

Kelley is behind some of America’s most groundbreaking and distinctive television dramas that address contemporary issues including social justice, diversity and privilege, the organization said. He is the creator of the Emmy, Peabody and Golden Globe Award-winning shows ‘Boston Legal’, ‘The Practice’ and ‘Ally McBeal’ and the critically acclaimed drama series ‘Big Little Lies’, ‘Boston Public’, ‘Chicago Hope ‘. ‘ and ‘Picket Fences’.

“Every generation has a favorite David E. Kelley show, and that’s because David Kelley has been turning out television hits since ‘LA Law’ four decades ago. He creates memorable television for viewers around the world,” said Bruce L. Paisner, President & CEO of the International Academy, in a statement.

“It is truly overwhelming to be recognized in this way by the International Academy. This award is a tribute to the incredible teams and individuals I have had the opportunity to work with over the years,” said Kelley. “I am especially grateful for the many opportunities I have been given to share stories and push the boundaries of what television can be.”

The gala will take place on November 25 in New York.

The Television Academy has unveiled the first class of presenters for the first night of this weekend’s Creative Arts Emmys. Names include LeVar Burton, Mark Cuban, Nikki Glaser, Derek Hough, Phil Keoghan, Lucy Liu, Jane Lynch, Victor Montalvo and Hannah Waddingham.
