‘Squid Game’ Season 2 Trailer: New Players, New Game

“Squid Game” is back and Netflix has released the first teaser for the highly anticipated second season. The footage marks the final reveal of the streamer’s annual Geeked Week fan event.

The teaser picks up right after the season 1 finale, when Seong Gi-hun abandoned his plans to go to the US and instead embarked on a daring chase with a new found motive. In the short teaser, he appears back in his 456 uniform amid a crowd of new participants. A huge cash prize awaits them, with a brief look at the upcoming games.

The globally successful Korean series follows financially struggling individuals as they compete in deadly games for a chance to win a life-changing prize, revealing the dark depths of human despair and resilience.

In the second season, Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun and Gong Yoo reprise their roles as survivors of the bloody elimination game.

Yim Si-wan (“The Attorney”, “Emergency Declaration”), Kang Ha-neul (“Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet”), Park Gyu-young (“Attack the Gas Station”), Lee Jin-uk, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim (“Kim Ji-young: born 1982”), Lee David (“The Terror Live”), Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, Jo Yuri and Won Ji.

Netflix has also confirmed that Hwang Dong-hyuk will return as director, writer and producer. Firstman Studio is producing the drama.

The nine-episode first season launched on Netflix in 2021. It turned out to be an all-time hit for the streamer. “Squid Game” Season 1 became the most watched non-English television series on Netflixa total of more than 2 billion hours watched on the platform over a runtime of approximately eight hours, with a total of 265 million views. The series was also a breakthrough for the Emmys in foreign language, nominated for fourteen categories, including Best Drama Series (a first for a non-English language production) and winning six.

The “Squid Game” universe has since expanded to include an unscripted competition series, “Squid Game: The Challenge,” as well as an upcoming video game.
