Sportscenter -anchor Jay Harris announces the diagnosis of prostate cancer

Long -term Sports center anchor Jay Harris announced that he has prostate cancer.
“I will be operated on Tuesday,” said Harris, 60, during the Thursday 5 June, episode of Good morning America. “I am about a month away from Sports Center to recover. And then I will come back better than ever.”
Harris, who has been working at ESPN since 2003, said that his doctor is ‘quite optimistic’ about his diagnosis.
“According to my last scan, nothing is spread,” Harris revealed. “So once we switch off the prostate, it is hopefully. That’s the goal.”
When sharing the news, Harris said he hopes that his story inspires other men to be proactive in discussing their own health matters.
“We don’t talk,” he said. “I was on a wave with some friends of mine. We were just talking about things that I probably can’t talk about on television. I called the news to them. I told them what was going on with me. The conversation from there was fantastic.”
Harris continued: “We talked about the doctor’s agreements and ailments and family histories and things we would not have had a conversation about. I thought I had to share because we all had to talk about these things. We all have them in our families.”
By choosing to ‘not talk about these things’, Harris said, “We condemn ourselves to death.”
Harris explained that prostate cancer is a generation of disorder for his family.
“My father had it,” he said. “My cousin told me that some people on the side of my father of the family I didn’t know they have. It’s there. We have to know. I can probably be exceeded with my 26-year-old son [Bryce]But he must know. ‘

When discussing his specific diagnosis of prostate cancer, Harris said that men often do not want to talk about things ‘under the belt’.
