The prices were handed out in the Skirball Center in Los Angeles.
In a speech for the public, SCL -President Ashley Irwin explained the prizes, not only the artistry and performance of his community, but also the remarkable spirit of resilience and hope in the light of hardship. He continued by passing on a sincere message that recognized the seriousness of recent challenges, in particular the devastating fires that Los Angeles destroyed and had deeply influenced the close SCL community. “While we are celebrating the dedication and creativity of our colleague composers and copywriters, we also think about the greater context of hardships and losses that surround us. The catastrophic fires have left an indelible stamp on our city, the residents and our community. But in this adversity we find strength and we find inspiration, “Irwin said. “This year’s SCL prices are not only a celebration of personal performance, but also of resilience, hope and the collective power that binds us in the light of adversity.”
