‘SNL’ slams ICE during ‘Weekend Update’ after death of ICU nurse

“Saturday evening live” light took on ICE on “Weekend Update,” hours after a 37-year-old intensive care unit nurse was killed by Border Patrol agents in Minneapolis.
“Vice President J.D. Vance criticized protesters who confronted ICE officers, saying they should instead write an op-ed or discuss it on social media. You know, just like these young scientists did on January 6,” Michael Che said during the January 24 episode, pointing to a photo of the 2021 attack on the Capitol.
He continued, “I understand that ICE agents are people, supposedly, and they have a job to do. But at some point, while you’re pepper spraying old ladies or shooting a nurse, you wonder, ‘Are we dicks?'”
The cold open of “SNL” took aim at Donald Trump with an awards show parody, returning Michael Myers as Elon Musk, who joked, “After what all my little freaks and psychoses did at ICE, I need more distraction.”
Earlier in the day on Saturday, Natalie Portman spoke out against ICE at Variety‘s Sundance Studio, featuring “ICE Out” and “Be Good” pins, the latter referencing Renée Good, a woman killed by ICE earlier this month.
“We are also at a moment in our country’s history that is quite devastating,” Portman said. “It’s really impossible not to talk about what’s happening right now and the brutality of ICE and how it needs to stop immediately. But there’s also a beautiful community that Americans are showing right now. They’re standing up for each other, protecting each other and fighting for their freedom. It’s a bittersweet moment to celebrate something we’re so proud of, against the backdrop of our nation in pain.”
