‘SNL’ Brings Back Alec Baldwin as Bret Baier in Kamala Harris Parody
Alec Baldwin returned to “Saturday Night Live” for the first time since 2020 — but not for his famous Donald Trump impression.
He played Fox News’ Bret Baier on the Oct. 19 episode of the late night comedy series, poking fun at the host’s recent interview with Vice President Kamala Harris, who will be played by Maya Rudolph throughout Season 50 .
“The pleasure is not ours,” Rudolph said as she sat down with Baldwin after being introduced.
As Baier began Baldwin: “When I interviewed President Trump, my first question was, ‘What do you think is the most important issue facing our nation?’ So my first question to you is: ‘Give me the exact number of murderers you have unleashed on this country.’
The two began bickering and talking over each other, as Baier and Harris did in the real interview Wednesday. “Can I please finish?” Rudolf asked. “I’m asking you,” Baldwin said. Rudolph shot back, “Well, then you have to listen,” to which Baldwin replied, “Well, I can’t, because I’m talking.” Annoyed, Rudolph asks, “Well, when are you stopping?” The piece ended with Baier saying, “Maybe when I go to bed.”
As Harris, Rudolph then bragged about her record prosecuting international cartels: “If I had been on ‘Breaking Bad,’ it would have ended in three episodes.”
During the real-life interview, after Harris referenced Trump’s recent controversial comments about using the U.S. military against the “enemy within,” “Special Report” aired a clip of Trump excluding the comment. (Baier later apologized for the mistake.) In the “SNL” skit, Baldwin’s Baier did the same, rolling out clips of Trump (played by James Austin Johnson) saying he’s “more scrutinized than Alfonse Capone” and danced to ‘YMCA. ”
“He can dance all he wants to YMCA or any song he doesn’t realize is a gay anthem,” Rudolph said.
Throughout the entire sketch, Baldwin’s Baier kept trying to step on the VP’s toes. When he accused Rudolph’s Harris of dissing Trump supporters: “Are they idiots? Slack jaws? Stomp humpers? Cross-eyed?” she replied, “You’re trying really hard to get me to say something bad!”
“Bret, let’s move on,” Rudolph said after Baldwin suggested she thought Trump supporters were fat. “So you’re not denying that they’re fat?” he replies, prompting her to cry, “Oh, my dear God!”
“You’re very sexy when you’re angry, you know that?” Baldwin told her, prompting widespread laughter from the audience, which doubled when Rudolph responded, “Yes, I do.”
The sketch then addressed Harris’ comments about how her presidency would differ from Joe Biden’s. “I’ve watched Joe Biden from the Oval Office to the Situation Room,” Rudolph said when asked about Biden’s mental state, pronouncing the president’s name as “J’Biden.”
“And J’Biden is j’smart, he’s j’brilliant, but my presidency will basically be j’billion times j’better,” she continued. “We are very different. For example, I like saying the word ‘abortion’.”
Baldwin winced when she said the word, and continued to convulse as Rudolph said “uterus” and “period” — then tried to get her back by saying “balls,” though she remained stoic.
Baldwin began to wrap up the interview, asking Rudolph why the American people should vote for her, but repeatedly interrupted her to prevent her from answering. With a sigh, Rudolph said, “Before I go, can I just say what I’ve been trying to say this whole time? Live from New York, it’s Saturday night!”
