Skydance TVs Matt Thunell to supervise Paramount Studios

Skydance Television President Matt Thunell is ready to add supervision of Paramount’s TV studios to his duties in the midst of the ongoing closure of the Paramount-Kydance deal, Variety has confirmed.
Thunell will run a merged division consisting of its current studio Skydance Television, as well as Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios value he is effective for Paramount’s now Chris McCarthy. The new combined TV operations are called Paramount Television Studios, a revival of the original Paramount TV arm that was closed in 2024.
In the meantime, it will be business as usual for CBS Studios when it moves to Skydance: David Stapf stays at the top of the studio, which has more than 40 shows in broadcast, streaming and cable, reporting in George Cheeks.
Skydance TV is best known for producing the Amazon Prime Video touches “Reacher” and “Cross” and Apple TV +’s “S Foundation”, while Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios is the proud home of the TV universe of “Yellowstone” Taylor Taylor.
In this extensive role, Thunell will report to Dana Goldberg, newly appointed co-chairman of Paramount Pictures and chairman of Paramount Television.
McCarthy, former head of Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks, became Co-CEO of Paramount Global in April 2024 with Cheeks, the then president and CEO of CBS, and Brian Robbins, then and CEO of Paramount Pictures and Nickelode.
While McCarthy and Robbins leave at the end of the Skydance deal, cheeks remain as chairman of TV media. He will serve under Skydance founder David Ellison, who will be the CEO of Paramount Skydance, and new President Jeff Shell (formerly Chef at NBCUIVERSAL).
Ellison is currently drawing up its leadership team for the merged company.
Representatives of Skydance did not respond immediately on request for comments on Monday.
