Skydance David Ellison promised to FCC CBS News would have ‘varied ideological perspectives’

More than a year after Skydance Media and its partners have conquered a deal with Shari Redstone and Paramount Global to merge the companies, the FCC still has to act on an application to properly approve the transfer of CBS Licencies to the new property.

Earlier this week, Skydance Chief David Ellison FCC chairman Brendan Carr and others met the committee to lobby the approval of the deal and Ellison in particular promised that “editorial decision-making of CBS reflects the varied ideological perspectives of American viewers.”

That is important because Carr, appointed by Trump, had reopened a desk of a complaint from ‘news worries’ against CBS about the alleged misleading adaptation of an interview with ’60 minutes’ with Kamala Harris -Segment -the same interview that Trump Paramount and CBS has charged by Trump $ 16 million. In a Fox News interview on 7 February with Martha Maccallum, Carr called Trump’s lawsuit against CBS and said that the president “was right about these media problems.” Carr said about the president: “He came out early and said,” This thing [“60 Minutes” interview] It seems that it is pretty chopped. ” The application of the ‘news removal policy’ of the FCC in this way was very unusual according to the former officials of the agency.

On Tuesday, July 15, Ellison and his lawyer, Matthew A. Brill van Latham & Watkins, Carr, met with Carr’s Staff Chef Greg Watson and Ben Arden, special counselor in the office of the FCC’s Media Bureau. According to a letter from Brill that was placed in the Docket of the FCC on Friday, Ellison and Brill emphasized the benefits of the public interest of the Skydance-Paramount transaction and “We also insisted on the media agency to approve the transfer of the CBS licenses”.

Under the topics that Ellison and Brill discussed during the FCC meeting: Skydance’s “Dedication to unbiased journalism and the embrace of different points of view, principles that ensure that the editorial decision-making of CBS reflects the varied ideological perspectives of American viewers.” (According to CBS, Skydance did not play a role in the decision to cancel “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”, which was publicly announced on Thursday.)

In the meantime, Carr has defended the goal of the Trump administration to eradicate diversity, fairness and inclusion programs, and the policy is called ‘innocent forms of discrimination’. To that end, Ellison and his lawyer “noted that Skydance is dedication to promote non-discrimination and equal opportunities on employment at New Paramount, so that the company fully complies with the law.”

With respect to the skydance-paramount transaction’s “Significant public interest benefits,” Ellison and Brill “Explained the Ellison Family and Redbird Representer Fresh Leadership With the Vision and Experience to Drive New Paramounts Presme Todythe, the Face of the Face or the Face of the Face or While Preserving and Enhancing the Legacy and Broad Reach of Both the National CBS Telework and the Company’s 28 owned-and-operated Local Television Stations, “per the submission.

As and when the Paramount-SKYDAND DEAL closes to ‘Paramount Skydance Corp.’ Redstone, who is of the utmost importance, is set up to the shareholder to leave the board of the merged company. Ellison would take on the role as CEO and chairman of the combined Paramount-SKYdance. The company would be checked by the Ellison family and publicly traded.

Also during Tuesday’s meeting with the FCC, Ellison and Brill again spoke to accusations “with regard to the prospect of unnecessary foreign influence on New Paramount.”

Third-party commentators In the FCC Skydance-Paramount procedure have expressed their concern about the potential for Chinese influence on the combined company, with reference to the minority stake in Skydance in the hands of the Chinese company intent Holdings. In an answer, Skydance said in a request of 10 March to the FCC: “Any insinuation that will be affected by communist influences is offensive.”

In the latest Skydance application it mentioned the claims of potential Chinese influence on the new paramount ‘Erroneous’. During the meeting of July 15, Ellison and Brill ‘repeated that Tencent will only have a non-voicing, passive interest in New Paramount’ of less than 5%, in the form of listed shares, it would be free to buy on the Nasdaq. That gives Tencent “no administration or informative rights and therefore no ability to influence the effect of New Paramount,” said the submission.

‘[W]E has made it clear that Mr. Ellison New Paramount will lead with a talented team of managers aimed at American stories, and that the investment of Redbird in New Paramount will not include participation by a Chinese entity or person, “according to the Skydance entering.” The planned management structure will ensure that the Ellison family is the management of the new Paramount with the rules of the committee and will not be subject to a Chinese (or other foreign) influence. “
