Sister Wives’ Robyn Brown Cries Over Kody Being ‘Rejected’ by His Kids

Robin Brown burst into tears Sister Women after comparing her difficult childhood to her husband Kody Brown‘s problems with his estranged children.

“When I see Kody being rejected by his kids, I see myself,” Robyn, 47, said on the Sunday, November 23, episode of the TLC series. “My father, Paulmarried my mother when I was about 9 years old. Paul was absolutely wonderful to me.”

She tearfully explained, “And even though I was angry and rejected my biological father for years, I understand how much I needed him and would still want him in my life and in my children’s lives.”

Robyn choked up and said, “I look like my biological father. I look more like him than my mother.”

Robyn’s comments came after her husband, Kody, 56, confessed that he felt heartbroken over his current relationship with the majority of his older children. He compared it to the friendship he missed with his own father.

“There’s a phrase I heard: ‘The father’s knife never leaves the heart of his children,’” Kody told Robyn. “That breaks my heart. I so wish I could have worked things out with my own father while he was still alive.”

Kody started to cry as he thought about the missed opportunity. ‘I told grandma Cheryl one time I said, “Cheryl, what I would do, what I would give to go have a few beers with my dad.” And she just looked at me and said, “I think he would have really enjoyed that.”

The reality star noted that at least he “got a beer.” Garrison the last time we had dinner together,” referring to his and ex-wife Janelle Brown‘s late son, Robert “Garrison” Brown, who died by suicide in March 2024 at the age of 25.

“I’m sure that was a nice memory for him,” Robyn commented, noting that Kody’s melancholy proves that he has “some regrets” about his parenting over the past few years.

Fans of Sister women know that before Kody’s splits Christine BrownJanelle, 56, and Meri BrownIn 2021, 2022 and 2023 respectively, his relationships with many of his children were not great.

During the 2020 coronavirus pandemic, Kody did not see the majority of his adult children due to his lockdown rules. He clashed most with his and Janelle’s sons, Garrison and Gabriel24, which was documented on Sister women.

Janelle siding with her children in their arguments with Kody added to the tension in the marriage prior to their split. (Kody and Janelle welcomed six children during their marriage.)

Once Kody divorced his first three wives, his dynamic with their children did not improve. Earlier this season, fans learned that the daughter was his and Janelle’s Maddy30, didn’t tell her father she was pregnant with baby No. 4, due to their estrangement.

Kody has a similarly strained relationship with his and Christine’s six children, but does see their youngest daughter, Really and truly13, more often. Meri, meanwhile, shares one child, Leon30, with Kody, whom he rarely speaks about on camera. (Robyn and Kody share son Solomon14, and daughter Ariella9. Kody also adopted Robyn’s three older children when they legally married in 2014.)

“I had to work on myself because I’m angry about what a lot of kids have said, done and believed,” Kody admitted on Sunday’s episode. “But I also need to have the tools to be able to enter into a relationship, put my feelings aside and invite them into a space where we can communicate safely and lovingly.”

He pondered the idea of finding a therapist so his children could talk freely with him about their rocky relationships. Robyn liked the idea and hinted that it could fix what she thinks Kody’s exes have made worse.

“I think there are some hurt feelings and misunderstandings and some influence that has taken place. Some pretty intense influence,” Robyn said, seemingly referring to the way her former Sister Wives handled their divorces.

Robyn added, “I don’t think parents fully realize how many little things they say actually influence the way their children feel about the other parent. And in plural marriage, dad isn’t nearly as equal to mom.”

Christine, 53, clapped back at the isolation, telling the cameras: “I’m just exhausted and so tired of being blamed for the way his children feel about him. It’s his responsibility and not mine.”

Janelle noted, “I wish I had a lot of influence on my adult children,” and joked, “Boy, things would be a lot different.”

For his part, Kody claimed, “I’ve reached out to all my kids, and multiple times. And if they don’t have a relationship with me, it’s because they don’t answer.”

Robyn reminded her partner, “No matter what they say, there will always be a Kody-sized hole in their heart when you’re not there.”

She pointed out that since their family broke up, things have been “very, very complicated” for everyone, especially the children.

“I had a lot of mean things to say about their mothers [and that was] Part of the problem,” Kody admitted. “That wasn’t a path I ever should have taken.”

Sister women airs on TLC Sundays at 10pm ET.
