Seth Rogen says he was blacklisted from hosting the Emmys

Seth Rogen has made some enemies at the Television Academy.

During a recent appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” “The Studio” star said he believed he was blacklisted from presenting at the Emmys after going off script when presenting an award in 2021.

“I do have that theory,” Rogen said. “I gave a presentation there, I think, four years ago, and I wasn’t invited back.”

COVID regulations were in full effect at the 2021 awards ceremony. Still, Rogen recalled that safety measures were not as strict as promised and he was put in a tent with hundreds of people.

“Let me start by saying there are way too many of us in this little room,” he explained. “What are we doing? They said this was outside. It’s not. They lied to us. We’re in a hermetically sealed tent now. I wouldn’t have come up here. Why is there a roof?”

He added: “It was true! They lied. They lied. It said, ‘Outdoor event.’ And I was all about doing the stupid joke that they wrote for me, and then I showed up, and then I was like, ‘We’re in a tent. I can’t ignore this…Eugene Levy is here! Are we going to kill Eugene Levy? I don’t want to do that. ”

Rogen said the producers were “outwardly pissed” at him afterward.

Three-time Emmys host Jimmy Kimmel then poked fun at his guest, joking, “I checked today because I’ve hosted the Emmys a few times and you are indeed banned from hosting.”

“I’m blacklisted,” Rogen replied. “I’m just like you. They’re trying to silence me. You can’t win.”

Despite his jokes, Rogen admitted, “I went way out of line and made them look bad. So I understand that.”

While he may not be allowed to present Emmy awards, Rogen is certainly not prohibited from winning them. Apple TV+’s industry comedy “The Studio,” created by and starring Rogen, led the 2025 Emmys with a total of 13 wins, including Outstanding Comedy Series and Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.
