Seth Rogen hails Catherine O’Hara as ‘Utter Genius’ at DGA Awards

“The Studio” team of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg took time to pay tribute to their late co-star Catherine O’Hara on Saturday as the pair picked up more awards for their Apple TV series “The Studio.”
O’Hara died on January 30 at the age of 71. In “The Studio,” O’Hara played Patty Leigh, a powerful manager. This show skewers the inner workings of Hollywood. O’Hara earned an Emmy nomination last year for supporting comedic actress during the show’s freshman season.
While accepting the kudo for best comedy series at the Directors Guild Awards on Saturday at the Beverly Hilton, Rogen and his longtime writing, directing and producing partner Evan Goldberg reflected on what it meant to have O’Hara join their daring series that was crowned best comedy at the Emmy Awards last September.
Rogen and Goldberg called O’Hara “our idol since we were kids.” Both were big fans of her work in the 1990 hit “Home Alone,” which made for some funny moments during the filming of Season 1 of “The Studio.” They shared a story about working with her on the set of “The Studio.”
‘Home Alone’ is honestly like the movie that made me want to make movies in a lot of ways,” Rogen explained to the star room. “In that movie she always shouted ‘Kevin, Kevin,’ and on set she always shouted ‘Evan, Evan,’ and every time she did it, we were like, ‘It’s like ‘Home Alone.’ “
O’Hara was a beloved figure in comedy, partly because of her reputation as a great colleague in film or TV. Her presence alone made the pair want to make “The Studio” a worthy effort for their esteemed co-star.
“The best thing about her is that she showed that you can be a complete genius and also the nicest person in the world,” Rogen said. “Every day we work very hard to make the show good enough to warrant her time and presence. So ultimately we want to thank the DGA for this, but especially we want to thank Catherine O’Hara.”
