Selma Blair in TV show ‘Cruel Intentions’, opening for a cameo
Selma Blair was said to have considered making a cameo in Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming TV series ‘Cruel Intentions’, but was never asked.
“I knew it was coming, but I can’t believe I didn’t see the trailer,” she said Variety at Thursday’s Power of Women event, hours after the trailer for the TV adaptation dropped. “Maybe there will be a cameo or something, but no, I haven’t been asked. I’m excited to see it.”
Blair portrayed the innocent Cecile Caldwell in the 1999 film, which is based on the classic novel “Dangerous Liaisons.” In the film, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon, Cecile fell for her cello instructor, Sean Patrick Thomas’ Ronald Clifford.
Thomas will appear in the upcoming Amazon series as Professor Hank Chadwick.
The new show follows students at Manchester College, a Washington, DC-adjacent university “where two ruthless step-siblings will do anything to stay at the top of the cutthroat social hierarchy,” according to the official logline. “After a brutal hazing event threatens the entire Panhellenic system at their school, they will do whatever it takes to maintain their power and reputation, even if it means seducing the daughter of the Vice President of the United States .”
The cast includes Sarah Catherine Hook, Zac Burgess, Savannah Lee Smith, Sara Silva, John Harlan Kim, Khobe Clarke and Brooke Lena Johnson.
As for what advice Blair would give the new cast, she kept it simple: “Enjoy every minute and be on time – and know your lines!”
The upcoming show is produced by Sony Pictures TV, Amazon MGM Studios and Original Film. Sara Goodman and Phoebe Fisher serve as co-showrunners, writers and executive producers. Roger Kumble, who wrote and directed the film, will executive produce alongside Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty. Producers include Bruce Mellon, Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi.
All eight episodes of “Cruel Intentions” debut on November 21. Watch the trailer below:
