When reports of a possible assassination plot against Trump, allegedly orchestrated by Iran, emerged in the wake of the Butler rally shooting, Senator Mike Waltz – who was also a member of the committee charged with investigating the incident – skeptical about the conclusion that Crooks acted alone.

Waltz said shortly after the incident, if reported this outlet: “How do you know that just a few days into your investigation? You can’t tell us his motive, but you can tell us he operated alone? You can’t get into these encrypted offshore accounts, but you can tell us that he acted alone? So I don’t buy that yet.”

Crooks was also found to have stored explosives in the car he drove to the meeting in Butler on the day of the attack. More bombs were found during an FBI raid on his parents’ home after the shooting.

Waltz said, “I don’t know many 20-year-old kids who can make multiple IEDs on their own with an external detonator.”
