Scott Hoying eliminated on Wicked Night

One couple was changed forever during ‘Dancing With the Stars’ Wicked Night.

The October 21 episode welcomed director John M. Chu as a guest judge as couples danced to hit songs from ‘Wicked’ – with some competing against Elphaba and others against Glinda.

This week’s scores were combined with last week’s dedication evening. Last week Carrie Ann Inaba took some heat for her criticism of certain couples, but this week she gave the first 10 of the season. The score came for the quickstep of Whitney Leavitt and Mark Ballas. The remaining judges, with the exception of Derek Hough who went with a 9, agreed with Inaba. At the end of the evening, Jordan Chiles and Ezra Sousa also received three 10s and one nine – Hough keeping his 10 paddle – for their stunning rumba.

Hough pointed out after Andy Richter and Emma Slater’s jazz routine that it was the final week, “so we’ll see”, ultimately giving him a 6. However, the other judges were more impressed, with the rest giving him a 7.

Last week, Inaba told Danielle Fishel and Pasha Pashkov that their dances were starting to look similar. This week she applauded Fishel’s bravery and said this was her breakthrough dance. Bruno Tonioli said it was “the most difficult number to choreograph” and Hough complimented the difficulty of the routine, calling it “magnificent.” The scores of four 9’s gave them a huge boost on the rankings.

But it was Elaine Hendrix and Alan Bersten’s contemporary routine in “Defying Gravity” that had everyone (including Bersten) in tears and on their feet. “I’m 54, I’m injured and I just did that,” she said through tears after the dance. She landed four 9s for the powerful routine.

After all the dances and scores of the past two weeks combined, Richter remained at the bottom of the leaderboard, while Leavitt returned to the top. After the votes were tallied – the show had 100 million votes in the last two weeks – Scott Hoying was sent home.
