Based on a scenario of the late Chico Teixeira, “Dolores” focuses on three generations of women, led by the titular Dolores, a 65-year-old widow and recovering gambling addict (played by Carla Ribas, “Alice’s House”), who had a dream to start her own casino. While she is close to her granddaughter, Duda (Ariane Aparecida), who works in a weapon store and wants to migrate to the US, her relationship with her daughter Deborah (Naruna Costa), who waits for her friend from prison, is rather tense.
Het familiedrama wordt geproduceerd door Sara Silveira van Dezenove Som E Imagens, een van de meest prominente producenten van Brazilië, achter de veelgeprezen hits als Gomes ‘breakout Cannes-geselecteerde debuut “Cinema, Aspirins en Vultures”, die Brazilië vertegenwoordigde in de Oscars in 2007, Berlinale Competition “All the Deads” door Caetano and Marco Dutra and “cidade; cidade; cidade; cidade; cidade; cidade; cidade; cidade; campo.”
Said the Open Reel’s Cosimo Santoro: “I immersed myself in the stories of Dolores, her daughter Deborah and her granddaughter Duda: three women fighting to realize their dream of a better life, regardless of the costs.”
“I have been following Marcelo Gomes ‘films for years; I am really enjoying it. I am also happy to work with producer Sara Silveria, with whom we have worked together on the film’ Cidade; Campo, ‘directed by Juliana Rojas and awarded in the Berlinale,’ he added.
The trailer opens on Dolores who listens to her horoscope as she powers her face, and then it cuts to the scenes of her daughter and granddaughter, the last while she honors her shooting skills.
“Dolores is a woman who is full of charms and contradictions, confronted with the challenges of old age and bet on an all-or-nut gambling. Despite a hard routine in the periphery of São Paulo, Dolores refuses to stop dreaming of a better life. That is her act by Rebellie with Gomes.”
“Over the years, we build a friendship and a partnership that was born, first and foremost, from the desire to make cinema. To talk about people, imagine feelings, invent other paths. It seems to me that when two reality, or movie, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, or movie, work, or toy ethether, work, or toy ighthe, or toy ighthe, or toy ighthe, or toy ighthe, or toy ighthe, or toy ighthe, work, or toy ighthe, or toy ighthe, or toy ighthe, or toy ighthe, or toy ighthe, or toy ethe, Or Any Differences – or Learning.
“The three generations, however, have to adjust their dreams to transform the world together. There is no lonely transformation. That was very important for us – the idea of dialectics in the film,” they said, adding it: “One of the most fascinating aspects of ‘dolores’ is how the film is directly bound to our current, firearms of the immigration issues US “
The film is intended to complete Teixeira’s much -praised “Trilogy of Affections”, which started with “Alice’s House” (2007), followed by “absence” (“ausência”) (2014).
The casting choices are also a tribute to Teixeria, with not only ribas, but also Gilda Nomacce as the best friend of Dolores and Matheus Fagundes as Duda’s boyfriend, both leads in “absence”.
