Salma Hayek-Debut ‘Midaq Alley’ gets Sony Re-release in Mexico, Latam

“Midaq Alley” (“El Callejón de Los Milagros”), the jewel of Jorge Fons 1995 that launched the career of Salma Hayek, is re-released by Sony Pictures in Mexico and Latin America, thanks to an agreement between Sony Pictures and his producer, Alameda, Alameda, Alameda.

News comes after the San Sebastian Film Fest of Spain announced that it would close the Classics (Klasikoak) section of the festival.

The newly restored 4K version celebrates the 30 -year anniversary of the iconic film, considered one of the most consistent Mexican films of all time. It won a series of prizes worldwide and represented Mexico at 68one Academy Awards.

Based on the novel of the Nobel Prize -winning Egyptian author Naguib Mahfouz, with a scenario by Vicente Leñero, the film was produced by the legendary Alfredo Ripstein, whose Alameda films is now run by his grandson, Daniel Birman Rippstein.

The film is set in a inner street in the center of Mexico City, the lives of which are closely intertwined, the film is split into four clear parts. The first three are named after main characters and the latter brings the story to an end. Each part starts at the same time and shows the same game of Domino’s and includes the same period, but from the point of view of another character.

“Returning ‘Midaq Alley’ back to theaters with the support of Sony is proof of the lasting impact and cultural importance of the film,” said Birman Ripstein, adding: “This new release will enable a new generation of the public to discover this magical film in a way that has never been seen before.” Restoring the classic to his new restored version lasted four years, he revealed.

“We are pleased to be part of this one -off cinematic celebration of Mijlpaal,” said Philip Alexander, VP and general manager of Sony Pictures that release México.

The theatrical run of “Midaq Alley” is planned to start on October 23 with Sony who handles distribution in Mexico and Latin -America.

The 73rd San Sebastian Film Festival runs on September 19,-27.
