The SAG-AFTRA Foundation has set up a fundraising that evokes actors to bring their industry-related memorabilia and heirlooms to the Union headquarters for an evaluation of the ‘Antique Roadshow’ style.
The charitable arm of the Performers Union works together with Heritage Auctions to raise money for the foundation on the occasion of her 40th birthday. On 3-4 May the ‘The Actors Auction’ foundation, a free two-day assessment event in the lobby of the Midden-Wilshire headquarters of SAG-AFTRA in Los Angeles. All proceeds that are increased in the coming auction will support the SAG-AFTRA Foundation.
Heritage auctions will bring in a group of experienced appraisers to evaluate items and their value. Then actors can choose whether they can auction them or not. The categories include: on the screen wardrobe and props, luxury handbags, vintage posters, rare books, exchange cards, signatures, fine and decorative art, manuscripts, photography, animation and more.
“Hollywood is filled with forgotten treasures,” said the executive VP Joe Maddalena of Heritage Auctions in a statement. “Just like ‘Antiques Roadshow’ hidden gems on attics and cellars, this assessment event will reveal the incredible value of Filmemorabilia and collecting objects that have been tucked away in cupboards and storage units.”
The auction is another example of how Sag-Aftra Foundation works to help trade union members in need.
“This event is about more than just discovering the value of your hidden treasures-it is about supporting a safety net for artists,” said Courtney B. Vance, chairman of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation. “Whether we offer financial assistance to artists in times of crisis or offering career building programs and professional resources, the foundation strives to elevate artists in every phase of their journey.”
