Russian officer rejects any planned meeting with Putin and Zensky

On August 18, Trump announced that he called Putin to encourage him to meet Zensky as part of his last push to end the war between Russia and Ukraine. That call came to a high level after a day of diplomacy, in which Trump met Zolensky and seven European leaders in Washington.

The US president described the meetings as ‘very good’ in a social post of truth, adding that he wants a trilateral top with himself, Zensky and Putin. Trump also indicated that European countries discussed Ukraine security guarantees “with coordination with the United States of America”, although he did not specify what that coordination would entail.

However, Lavrov offered a different perspective during the interview that was broadcast on 24 August. He argued that the safety of Ukraine should be guaranteed by a broader international group, including the United Nations Security Council.
