Ring cameras and doorbells now use AI to provide specific descriptions of motion activity

The Ring van Amazon announced on Wednesday that it introduces a new AI-driven function in its door sings and cameras, which offers users specific text descriptions of current movement activity.
If users now receive real -time reports about events on their property, the updates are more descriptive. For example: “A person walks up the stairs with a black dog”, or “Looking two people in a white car that is parked in the driveway.”
The function is intended to improve the vague reports that were previously available. Now users can know exactly what is happening and they can quickly decide whether the immediate attention requires. It should be noted that the AI only describes the first few seconds of the movement -activated video clip.
The function is rolled out today as a beta with only English for Ring Home Premium subscribers in the US and Canada. Users can choose to switch off the function by going to the settings in the Ring app.
According to a blog post from Jamie Siminoff, founder of Ring and now Amazon’s VP from Home Security, the company plans to introduce Extra AI functions. One of these combines different movement events in and around a house in a single alert.
Ring is also planning to implement a “adapted anomal warning” with which users can define what a deviation is for their property, so that the camera can inform them when such an event occurs.
Moreover, Siminoff said that Ring ‘will learn your routine’, so that it can inform users when something is unusual. This can be disturbing for some users, especially given the earlier Ring privacy problems.
“We are just starting to scratch the surface of AI. I have the feeling that we are back to the very early days of the ring – I see an unlimited potential for new experiences that we can invent for our neighbors,” Siminoff wrote.
This announcement follows the recent launch of the AI search function of Ring, with which users can find specific moments within video recordings.
