Priscilla Presley shocked by Lisa Marie’s marriage to Michael Jackson

Priscilla Presley had many thoughts about the late daughter Lisa Marie Presleyshort marriage to Michael Jackson – And none of them was good.

“I was shocked by marriage. I knew in my bones that Michael was not married Lisa Marie; he married the Presley Dynasty,” wrote Priscilla, now 80, in her new memoirs, Soft, as I leave you: Life after ElvisReleased on Tuesday 23 September. “The king of Pop tied himself to the king of Rock and Roll. I didn’t believe he loved her.”

Priscilla theoretized that Jackson ‘desperately needed good publicity’, so he married Lisa Marie.

“It was one thing to legally fight the charges against him against him. There was no way to get out of it good,” wrote Priscilla. “But photos of him with Elvis’s daughter who was wearing the huge diamond engagement ring that he had made for her? That image was pure gold.”

Lisa Marie met Jackson when she was a young girl before she was connected again in 1993. Their relationship started the following year and in May 1994 they were married. Their divorce was completed in 1996.

“Michael had started reaching her when the charges for child abuse became public. I think he was addicted to her in the beginning,” Priscilla recalled. “She felt sorry for him, and of course she believed in his innocence. Nobody wants to believe that kind of allegations against someone they know.”

Jackson was first accused of sexual abuse of children in 1993, which he fiddled until his death at the age of 50 in 2009 (Jackson was arrested and accused of child abuse in 2003, but he was not found guilty two years later.)

When the allegations went public for the first time, Priscilla claimed that Lisa Marie was “gradually attracted” by Jackson.

“Michael was a manipulative man, and I think he had set his sights on her long before she realized it,” she wrote and noticed that Lisa Marie Jackson’s “childish innocence” did not see as a “warning sign”.

In the meantime, Priscilla had a “bizarre” relationship with her then son. She wrote about a dinner in Lisa Marie’s house with Jackson.

“I was willing to be pleasant, but he wanted nothing to do with me. He stayed away from me as far as possible. In fact, he stayed far away from all the adults,” she remembered. “He kept going to the limit to avoid me.”

Their only “actual contact” came to one Elvis Presley Tribute concert in Memphis. Jackson attended ‘Unexpected’, who took Priscilla ‘a different publicity stunt’. Priscilla met Lisa Marie in a hotel for the event – but Jackson “did not come out” to greet her.

“A few minutes after I arrived, the door opened through the hall and Michael appeared,” she wrote. “He grabbed his hat from the table where he had left him, smiled a little and then put back in the room and closed the door. He said nothing to me on his way to the show.”

According to Priscilla there was “no chance” to talk to him during the show. “Early the next morning he was gone,” she added and noted that this was the “sum total” of interactions she had with Jackson during his marriage to Lisa Marie.
