Princess Diana has made it clear who was responsible for the failure of her marriage

The idea that palace control shaped Diana’s life is reflected in stories from those who witnessed how carefully her public image was managed.
Photographer Denis O’Regan described how palace officials tried to suppress images of Diana attending a David Bowie concert at Wembley Stadium in 1987.
O’Regan said Kensington Palace called the day after the show asking them not to use the photos.
At the time, Diana was 25 and had attended the concert with Army Major James Hewitt, then 29, with whom she later admitted to having a five-year affair starting in 1986.
O’Regan said: “There was word about James Hewitt.” He added that officials wanted to avoid speculation, explaining: “They just didn’t want Diana in the press.”
Friends said this constant intervention reinforced Diana’s belief that forces around Charles – and not just his romantic choices – shaped and ultimately sabotaged their marriage.
An insider said: “She felt managed, silenced and judged, while Charles was buffered by people whose priority was the institution, not the relationship.”
People close to Diana said her reflections were not about forgiving anyone, but about understanding how a young, emotionally vulnerable woman was trapped in a system that never made room for her.
