Pope Leo XIV criticized accusations of sexual abuse against priests

The man who is previously known as Robert Prevost became the first American Pontiff on Thursday 8 May. Almost immediately he was accused by a group known as the Survivors Network of those who have been abused by priests – or Snap – to cover the sins of his church.

In an open letter, the group said that the assumption of Leo “emphasizes that the grim reality underlies the college of cardinals – many who voted in this conclave, protected active abusers, and many who will be appointed to the Curia under this papacy similar spots.”

The group said that they have received information from survivors and whistleblowers around the world and had previously warned Pope Francis about Leo’s alleged debt in the cover-ups.

“As a provincial of the Augustinians, Pope Leo XIV Pater James Ray allowed a priest who was subsequently accused of abuse of minors whose ministry had been limited since 1991 to live in St. John Stone Friary in Chicago in the Augustinians in Chicago, despite the closeness of a Catholic primary school.”

The Chicago-Sun Times reported in 2021 that church officials approved the transfer and noted that there was ‘no school in the immediate vicinity’.
